Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway Accident: 3 Killed, 7 Injured Near Harniyav Village After Truck Rams Into Stationary Bus
Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway accident claimed three lives and left at least seven others injured early Monday morning near Harniyav village under Kanbha police station limits. The tragic incident occurred when a speeding truck rammed into a stationary Patel Travels bus and a Kia car, leading to a deadly pile-up on the expressway.
According to officials, the accident took place around 6 AM when the Patel Travels luxury bus and a Kia car collided on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway. Both drivers stopped on the roadside to assess the situation. However, moments later, a Rajasthan-registered truck coming from Hazira crashed into the stationary bus from behind, killing three passengers seated at the rear and injuring several others.
The impact was so severe that the rear portion of the bus was extensively damaged, while the Kia car was crushed from both ends. Police and emergency services immediately rushed to the scene after receiving the alert. Eight ambulances from the 108 emergency network reached the spot to transport the injured to nearby hospitals, including Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Due to the traffic congestion caused by the accident, some injured passengers were taken to hospitals in private vehicles.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Neelam Goswami of Ahmedabad Rural Police confirmed that three people died on the spot, while seven to eight sustained injuries of varying degrees. “Teams from Kanbha and Vivekanandnagar police stations were dispatched immediately after receiving information. The injured have been admitted to hospitals, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem,” Goswami said. Two of the deceased were from Mumbai, and one from Mehsana district.
Police have taken the truck driver into custody and registered a case to investigate the exact sequence of events. Preliminary reports suggest that poor visibility and over-speeding may have been contributing factors. Authorities are also examining whether the vehicles were parked improperly on the expressway, which may have increased the risk of collision.

This tragic crash occurred near Raska village in Daskroi taluka, leading to temporary traffic disruptions on the expressway. Police managed to clear the congestion within a few hours, restoring traffic flow between Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
The Gujarat Road Safety Authority (GujROSA) has been working towards improving highway safety across the state. In July, GujROSA, in collaboration with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and Road Safety Network (RSN), announced plans to develop a comprehensive Speed Management Policy to tackle the rising number of road accidents caused by over-speeding.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Road Accidents in India Report 2022, Gujarat recorded 17,419 road crash deaths, with over-speeding accounting for nearly 65% of these fatalities. This latest incident once again underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved road safety measures on high-speed corridors like the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway.
As the investigation continues, police are expected to review CCTV footage and gather eyewitness statements to determine the liability of those involved. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while traveling on highways, particularly during low-visibility hours.
Three people lost their lives, and at least seven others were injured in a horrific Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway accident near Harniyav village when a speeding truck rammed into a stationary bus and car. Police investigations are ongoing, and road safety authorities are emphasizing stricter implementation of speed control measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
