Zomato Hyperpure Warehouse Inspected in Bengaluru After Zepto Facility Sealed Over Food Safety Concerns

Zomato Hyperpure warehouse inspection in Bengaluru has put another major quick-commerce and food supply operation under the scrutiny of Karnataka’s food safety authorities, a day after officials sealed a Zepto warehouse in the city over alleged violations.
Food safety officials reportedly visited the Hyperpure by Zomato facility at Sakalawara, near Bannerghatta Road, on Wednesday as part of an inspection of food products and their handling. The visit comes amid a wider inspection drive by the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department covering food businesses, hotels, warehouses and delivery-related operations.
The inspection at the Zomato-linked facility follows an earlier visit by officials, during which several concerns relating to licensing, labelling and storage were reportedly identified. The warehouse itself was said to be clean and maintained, but officials flagged issues involving specific food products.
According to information released following the earlier inspection, officials reportedly found around 146 kg of chicken without the manufacturer’s FSSAI licence number. Another 40 kg of garlic was allegedly sourced from a manufacturer whose food safety licence was not valid at the time.
Officials also reportedly raised concerns over the labelling of packaged products. These included around 300 kg of rice, 20 kg of dry fruits and 15 kg of masala products. About 10 kg of imported radish pickle was also reportedly found stored without the refrigeration required for the product.
The department is understood to have collected 40 samples during the inspection, including five legal samples and 35 survey samples, for further examination. A notice was reportedly issued to the Hyperpure facility, with further action possible depending on the findings and applicable food safety provisions.
The latest inspection comes shortly after action against a Zepto warehouse in Bengaluru Rural district. During that inspection, Karnataka food safety officials reportedly found accumulated dirt, organic waste and discarded packaging on the floor, along with concerns over food handling, storage, labelling and alleged misbranding.
The Zepto facility was subsequently sealed with immediate effect. Officials said the action was taken after observing conditions they considered inconsistent with food safety requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and related regulations.
Zepto said it was cooperating with the authorities and would take steps to address the observations made during the inspection. The company also said it remained committed to strengthening its food safety and hygiene processes.
The developments are significant because warehouses operated by quick-commerce and food supply businesses can handle large volumes of products before they reach restaurants, retailers or consumers. Any shortcomings involving product labelling, licensing, storage or handling can therefore have implications beyond an individual facility.
Karnataka’s recent inspection activity also indicates that food safety authorities are increasing scrutiny of establishments involved in the storage and distribution of food products. Hotels, food outlets and large supply facilities in Bengaluru have also come under inspection in recent days.

For Zomato’s Hyperpure business, the immediate focus will be on the outcome of the inspection and any corrective measures sought by the authorities. If laboratory testing or further investigation confirms violations, the department may proceed with action under the applicable food safety regulations.
The inspections underline the importance of maintaining valid licences, accurate product labels, proper storage conditions and traceability across the food supply chain. Further developments are expected once the food safety department completes its assessment and determines whether additional action is required.
