Surat Factory Fire: Massive Blaze at Nylon Garment Unit, No Casualties Reported
Surat factory fire triggered panic in Gujarat’s industrial hub on Tuesday after a massive blaze engulfed a nylon garment manufacturing unit, prompting a swift emergency response from fire services.
The incident occurred on April 1 in Surat, where thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising high into the sky as flames rapidly spread through the factory premises. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot within minutes, deploying multiple fire tenders to contain the blaze.
Officials said firefighting operations are currently underway, with crews working in challenging conditions due to the highly flammable materials stored inside the unit. Nylon and associated chemicals can intensify fires quickly, making it difficult to bring such situations under control.
Despite the scale of the incident, authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. As a precautionary measure, nearby areas were cordoned off and evacuation protocols were initiated to ensure public safety.

This incident comes on the same day as another tragic fire in Surat’s Mithi Khadi locality, where a blaze in a three-storey residential building claimed the lives of four women and a child. According to police sources, the victims were involved in saree packing work when the fire broke out.
Initial findings in that case suggest a possible electrical spark near a switchboard may have ignited foam sheets stored nearby. The resulting toxic smoke quickly filled the building, leading to suffocation. All five victims were rushed to a local hospital but later succumbed during treatment, officials said.
The back-to-back fire incidents have once again raised concerns about fire safety standards in both industrial and residential setups, particularly in units handling flammable materials. Authorities are expected to conduct detailed investigations into both cases and review safety compliance in similar establishments.
