Two sleeper buses collide near Vadodara on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH-48), resulting in a tragic accident that claimed two lives and left more than 15 people injured. The collision occurred near Lakodara Patiya in Karjan taluka of Gujarat’s Vadodara district in the early hours of Monday.
According to officials, the accident involved two private luxury sleeper buses traveling from Surat towards Saurashtra. The rear bus rammed into the one in front, leading to a devastating impact that crushed portions of both vehicles. The Karjan Fire Department immediately responded, using hydraulic cutters to rescue trapped passengers from the mangled buses.

Rescue Operation and Casualties
Authorities confirmed that the conductor of the rear bus and a woman passenger from the front bus died on the spot. Firefighters had to cut through the metal sheets using hydraulic equipment to recover their bodies. Around 15 other passengers suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals by toll ambulances.
A spokesperson from the Karjan Fire Department said the rescue teams faced difficulty due to the heavy damage to the buses’ front sections. Despite the challenging conditions, all passengers were successfully evacuated from the accident site within hours.

Karjan Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Vijay Madan informed Bharat Details that an FIR has been registered against the driver of the rear bus, who initially fled the scene fearing public anger. “We have tracked him down and are proceeding with his arrest. Among the deceased was a woman whose child is among the injured,” he added.
Following the collision, traffic movement on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was disrupted for some time. Police teams worked swiftly to clear the wreckage and restore normal flow. The investigation is underway to determine whether negligence or speeding led to the crash.
