A tragic boating accident off the coast of southern Vietnam has claimed the lives of at least 15 Indian tourists, turning what was meant to be a holiday excursion into one of the deadliest incidents involving Indian travellers abroad in recent months. Sources indicated that a larger group associated with the company had travelled to Vietnam as part of an organised visit involving distributors and employees from southern India.

Officials are still verifying how many members of that larger delegation were aboard the ill-fated speedboat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of Indian lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured and said Indian diplomatic missions were working closely with Vietnamese authorities to extend every possible assistance.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also expressed condolences and urged the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to continue coordinating with Vietnamese officials to support rescue operations and provide assistance to affected families.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh sought updates from officials after reports suggested that some tourists from the state might have been among those involved in the accident.

He instructed officials to coordinate with the Central Government to ensure all necessary support reaches those affected.
