Flier Vomited Twice Before Jumping Off Moving Plane at Chennai Airport, Triggers Security Alert

Flier vomited twice before jumping off moving plane at Chennai Airport in a startling incident that unfolded early morning after a Sharjah–Chennai Air Arabia flight landed safely but was still taxiing on the runway. The sudden act created panic among passengers and led to an immediate security response at the airport.

According to airport authorities, the incident occurred just minutes after touchdown at Chennai International Airport, when the aircraft had exited the main runway and was moving slowly on a taxiway. Before the plane could come to a complete halt, a male passenger reportedly opened the emergency exit door and jumped out.

A senior airport official confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the aircraft was still in motion, though at low speed, when the passenger exited. “The flight had landed and was taxiing. The individual suddenly opened the exit and jumped. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or damage to the aircraft,” the official said.

Passenger Reportedly Unwell During Flight

Preliminary findings suggest that the passenger may have been experiencing health issues during the journey. Officials revealed that he had complained of nausea and had vomited twice while onboard the Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Chennai.

Authorities believe his physical discomfort could have contributed to his unusual and risky behaviour. However, investigators are still examining whether other factors were involved, including possible panic or distress during landing.

Immediate Security Response by CISF

Following the incident, the pilot quickly alerted ground authorities. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) rushed to the spot and secured the passenger without further incident. He was later handed over to local police for questioning and further investigation.

The episode briefly affected airport operations. As a precautionary measure, the main runway was shut for about an hour—from 03:23 am to 04:23 am—while authorities ensured safety protocols were fully restored. During this time, incoming and outgoing flights were managed through a secondary runway to avoid disruptions.

Investigation Into Aviation Safety Breach

Aviation authorities have launched a detailed probe into how the passenger managed to open the emergency exit during taxiing, as such doors are typically secured and monitored by cabin crew. The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety awareness and adherence to aviation protocols.

While the identity of the individual has not been officially released, unconfirmed reports suggest he may be a resident of Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. Officials are expected to verify these details as part of the ongoing investigation.

Experts note that emergency exits on aircraft are designed strictly for evacuation during critical situations and are not to be operated under any other circumstances. Any misuse not only endangers the individual but also poses risks to other passengers and crew members.

No Injuries, Aircraft Safe

Despite the alarming nature of the incident, authorities confirmed that no passengers or crew members were injured, and the aircraft did not sustain any damage. Normal operations resumed shortly after safety checks were completed.
