My Brother is Mujahideen Says Sister of Pahalgam Attack Suspect in Kashmir

My Brother is Mujahideen—these chilling words came from the sister of a man suspected of orchestrating one of the deadliest attacks in Kashmir since Article 370 was scrapped. As she stood before the ruins of her demolished home in Tral, her voice trembled not just from fear but from the chaos that has engulfed her family and the region.

This shocking revelation came after the house belonging to Adil Hussain Thokar—also known as Adil Guree—was demolished by security forces during a high-tension search operation linked to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

What Really Happened in Tral?

The family home of Adil Hussain Thokar was one of two houses reduced to rubble late Thursday night. Security officials claim the demolition was the result of explosions caused by hidden explosives during the search for two wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists—Adil Thokar and Asif Sheikh.

The sister of Thokar, speaking to media near the debris, said:

“My one brother is in jail, the other brother is a Mujahideen, and I also have two sisters. Yesterday, when I came here from my in-laws’ place, I did not find my parents and siblings at home. Police had taken them away. While I was here, the Security Forces came and asked me to move to a neighbour’s house. I saw a man wearing a camouflage uniform placing an object like a bomb on top of the house. After that, the house was demolished… We are innocent. They have destroyed our house.”

Who Is Adil Hussain Thokar?

Authorities have named Adil Thokar as a key figure in the April 22 Pahalgam attack. He hails from the Anantnag district and is believed to be affiliated with the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. Investigations reveal that:

  • Adil legally traveled to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border in 2018
  • He received terrorist training during his stay
  • He returned secretly to Jammu and Kashmir last year
  • He has allegedly been providing logistics and planning support to cross-border operatives

The Pahalgam Attack: What We Know

The attack in Baisaran, a picturesque tourist spot 7 km from Pahalgam, shocked Kashmir and the rest of India. Here’s a breakdown of the tragic incident:

  • Date & Time: April 22, around 1:30 PM
  • Location: Heavily patrolled tourist meadow in Pahalgam
  • Attackers: Six men in Army uniforms
  • Modus Operandi: Targeted tourists based on religion, reportedly asking them to recite Islamic verses
  • Casualties: 26 people killed, many more injured
  • Witness Accounts: Chaos, screaming, gunfire echoing through pine forests and snow-covered peaks

Hunt for the Fugitives

To aid in capturing the attackers, the Anantnag Police has announced a ₹20 lakh reward for information on:

  • Adil Hussain Thokar
  • Ali Bhai
  • Hashim Musa

All three are linked to the Baisaran massacre and remain on the run.

Controversy Over House Demolitions

Security forces argue that demolishing the homes was necessary to disable hideouts and explosives. However, families say they’re being punished unfairly. Thokar’s sister insisted:

“We are innocent. They didn’t even let me speak to my parents. They just came and destroyed everything.”

The demolition of these homes has sparked intense debate about justice, collective punishment, and due process in a region already plagued by conflict.
