Toll Gates To Soon Get Off The Roads with New Toll Policy: Nitin Gadkari

Imagine cruising down the highway without ever stopping at a toll booth again. Sounds futuristic? Well, this future might become a reality sooner than you think. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has shared a major update that’s set to change how we pay tolls across India.

Big Change Coming for Indian Highways

Nitin Gadkari recently announced that physical toll booths across the country will be a thing of the past. A new toll policy is in the works and will be introduced within the next 15 days. The goal? Making toll collection smoother, faster, and hassle-free for all commuters.

“The central government will soon introduce a new toll policy. I will not speak much about it now, but within the next 15 days, a new policy will be announced. Once implemented, there will be no reason for anyone to complain about tolls,” Gadkari said at an event.

What’s Changing?

Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming toll transformation:

  • No More Physical Toll Booths
Toll booths will be phased out completely.
  • Automatic Toll Deductions
Tolls will be deducted directly from bank accounts.
  • Satellite-Based Tracking
Vehicle movement will be tracked using satellite technology.
  • Number Plate Recognition
Vehicle identification will be done using number plate scanning.

This upgrade will save time, reduce traffic at toll plazas, and offer a seamless driving experience.

Mumbai-Goa Highway Set for Completion by June

At the same event, Gadkari also gave a much-awaited update about the Mumbai-Goa highway, a project that’s seen numerous delays.

“There were fights among brothers, court cases, and land compensation issues. But don’t worry, the road will be 100% complete by this June,” he said.

Benefits of the Mumbai-Goa Highway:

  • Faster Travel
Drastically reduced travel time between Mumbai and Goa.
  • Boost to Konkan Development
Improved connectivity will support economic growth in the region.
  • Smoother Commute
Better road quality and reduced vehicle wear and tear.

India’s Roads to Beat the USA?

Gadkari made a bold statement about India’s road future:

“In the next two years, India’s road infrastructure will be better than that of the United States.”

While some highways like Delhi-Jaipur and Mumbai-Goa still face issues, Gadkari expressed strong confidence in overcoming these “black spots.”

More Toll Relief On the Way?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is also working on other proposals to reduce toll burdens:

Proposed Toll Reforms:

  • No Toll on Narrow National Highways
Highways that are only 2.5 lanes wide may be exempt from toll.
  • Annual Toll Pass for ₹3,000
Drivers may soon be able to pay once a year instead of at every toll plaza.

These proposals have been sent to the Finance Ministry for approval. While there’s no official timeline yet, implementation could start soon.

Earlier Plans

Earlier, MoRTH had also discussed:

  • Monthly Toll Passes
Considered more practical than lifetime or annual passes.

Some stretches generate less toll than the cost of collection, so these reforms may actually be beneficial for both the government and the drivers.

In Summary:

  • Toll Gates To Soon Get Off The Roads thanks to satellite-based technology.
  • New toll policy expected to be introduced within 15 days.
  • Mumbai-Goa highway to be completed by June.
  • Annual toll pass and toll-free narrow highways under consideration.

This move is expected to revolutionize highway travel across the country. With fewer stops and smarter systems, your next road trip could be smoother than ever.
