5 men shoot rival gang member inside Patna hospital room

It was a regular Thursday morning in Patna. The hospital corridors buzzed with usual activity—nurses walking briskly, patients resting quietly, and doctors tending to their rounds. But in a shocking twist, Paras Hospital in Raja Bazaar was turned into a crime scene.
5 men shoot rival gang member inside Patna hospital room—a headline that now echoes across Bihar and the nation, raising serious concerns about the state’s crumbling law and order.
Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal from Buxar district, was undergoing treatment at Paras Hospital. He had been released from Beur Jail on medical parole. But instead of healing, fate had something grim in store. Around 9:30 am, five armed men stormed into his room, guns in hand, and opened fire without hesitation. CCTV footage later revealed the terrifying moments: all five attackers shooting Mishra multiple times before fleeing the hospital premises with clinical precision.
The attackers, unmasked and confident, had entered the hospital as if they owned the place—suggesting either a lapse in hospital security or possible internal complicity. Investigations are now underway to determine how they managed to bypass hospital checks, armed and unhindered.

Who was Chandan Mishra?
Chandan Mishra wasn’t just any patient. He had a long history of violent crime and multiple murder charges against him. Due to his criminal profile, he was shifted from Buxar jail to Bhagalpur jail and was later granted medical parole. But even within hospital walls, safety seemed elusive.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma stated, “Mishra was a known criminal. The attackers possibly belonged to a rival gang. There’s a strong possibility this was a planned gang-war retaliation.”
“We are investigating whether the attack stemmed from intra-gang issues or if rival groups were involved,” said Inspector General Jitendra Rana.
The attackers reportedly fled on motorcycles, headed towards Buxar. A photograph of one of the shooters has been recovered from CCTV footage, and efforts are underway to identify all culprits involved.
Was hospital security compromised?
This brazen crime has raised eyebrows not just for the act itself, but also for how it was carried out. Questions are being asked about Paras Hospital’s security protocols. Were the guards complicit? How did five armed men enter without resistance?
“Anyone entering the hospital is frisked. We’re investigating whether the hospital staff or guards were involved,” stated IG Jitendra Rana.
The hospital’s internal staff and security personnel are being interrogated, and their actions leading up to and following the attack are under tight scrutiny.
Political storm in Bihar
As news of the shooting broke, it sent shockwaves through Bihar’s political corridors. The incident, coming just months before assembly elections, has given the opposition a powerful weapon.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav didn’t hold back. Referring to the recent series of violent crimes, he posted on social media:
“And now, a BJP leader shot dead in Patna! What to say, and to whom? Is there anyone in the NDA government willing to listen to the truth or admit their mistakes?”
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav demanded President’s Rule in Bihar.
“There is no administration left in Bihar. Criminals roam free. Even doctors and nurses are not safe. This government shelters mafias,” he claimed.
A pattern of violence
This isn’t an isolated incident. Bihar has seen a spate of shootings in recent weeks:
- Businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka was gunned down outside his Patna home earlier this month. He had reportedly asked for police protection before the attack.
- Shortly after, another BJP leader, Vikram Jha, was shot in the Ram Krishna Nagar area of Patna. He succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
- A lawyer in Patna and a teacher in Saran were also shot dead in separate incidents last Sunday.
These back-to-back incidents paint a disturbing picture of lawlessness in the state.
Investigation underway
While no arrests have been made yet, the police are treating the matter with urgency. Security footage is being analyzed frame-by-frame. A dedicated team is working with Buxar police to track the suspects.
“Several bullet rounds were fired. We are trying to verify the total number of wounds. The hospital’s security management is under full review,” SSP Sharma confirmed.
Chandan Mishra, despite being shot multiple times, was initially reported to be alive. However, sources later confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries, making this yet another grim entry in Bihar’s recent wave of violent crime.
The incident not only exposes serious gaps in Bihar’s law enforcement and security systems but also highlights the boldness of criminals who no longer seem afraid of consequences. The question remains: How did five men walk into a hospital room and shoot a criminal in broad daylight — and walk out without a trace?
As Bihar heads toward elections, the state’s law and order situation is under intense public and political scrutiny. Whether this leads to real change or just more headlines remains to be seen.
