According to the First Information Report (FIR), a pregnant woman was brought to the civic hospital for treatment. During the course of medical examination, doctors reportedly advised her family that the hospital did not have an available Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) bed for the newborn. The medical team therefore recommended shifting the patient to another healthcare facility equipped to provide the required neonatal care.
Investigators allege that the patient’s relatives became upset over the advice given by the doctors. During the dispute, members of the family allegedly contacted corporator Ramesh Mhatre, following which he and several associates reached the hospital.
Police claim that the disagreement soon escalated into violence inside the hospital premises. Doctors, healthcare workers and hospital staff were allegedly assaulted while performing their official duties, prompting immediate police intervention.
