PM Modi UAE Visit: India, UAE Sign Defence and Energy Deals Amid West Asia Conflict

PM Modi UAE Visit became a major diplomatic development on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi during a sensitive phase for the Middle East region. The discussions focused on regional security, energy cooperation, defence partnerships, maritime trade, and fresh investments in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the UAE as part of his five-nation foreign tour, which will also include visits to the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy. The Indian Prime Minister was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour and personally received by the UAE President at Abu Dhabi Airport.

During the bilateral meeting, PM Modi strongly condemned the recent attacks on the UAE amid the ongoing West Asia conflict and said India stands firmly with the Gulf nation during challenging times.

“India stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the UAE in every situation,” PM Modi said while thanking the Emirati leadership for its continued support toward the Indian community living in the country.

India Extends Support for Peace in West Asia

The meeting between the two leaders took place at a time when tensions in West Asia continue to impact global oil markets, shipping routes and economic stability. PM Modi said the consequences of the regional conflict are being felt far beyond the Middle East.

According to officials familiar with the discussions, India conveyed its readiness to support peace initiatives and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. The Prime Minister also praised Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s leadership during the ongoing crisis.

In a post shared on X after the meeting, PM Modi wrote that he had “excellent discussions” with the UAE President and reiterated India’s “strongest condemnation” of the attacks on the UAE.

Key Agreements Signed Between India and UAE

Several important agreements were signed during the visit, highlighting the growing strategic relationship between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi. The agreements covered defence cooperation, petroleum reserves, LPG supply, maritime infrastructure and advanced technology sectors.

One of the notable developments was the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding involving Cochin Shipyard Limited, Drydocks World and the Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding. The partnership aims to strengthen skill development in ship repair and create employment opportunities for Indian workers in the maritime sector.

Officials said the initiative is expected to help India emerge as a major global hub for shipbuilding and ship repair services. It will also support training programmes for skilled workers and improve technical expertise in the sector.

The two countries additionally discussed ways to secure energy supply chains as instability in the Gulf region raises concerns over oil transportation and maritime security routes used by global trade networks.

UAE Announces USD 5 Billion Investment in India

In another major announcement during the visit, the UAE government confirmed investments worth USD 5 billion in India. The proposed investments are expected to target infrastructure, logistics, energy, shipping and emerging technology sectors.

The investment commitment is being viewed as a significant boost for India-UAE economic ties, which have rapidly expanded over the last few years under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.

PM Modi later said the agreements signed during the visit would give “fresh impetus” to bilateral cooperation across vital sectors.

Diplomatic experts believe the UAE remains one of India’s most important strategic partners in the Gulf region due to strong trade relations, energy dependence and the presence of a large Indian diaspora in the country.

India-UAE Partnership Continues to Expand

The India-UAE relationship has seen rapid growth in recent years, especially after the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Bilateral trade between the two countries crossed major milestones recently, with cooperation expanding into defence manufacturing, renewable energy, fintech, food security and digital infrastructure.

India also views the UAE as a critical partner for maintaining stability in the Indian Ocean region and ensuring uninterrupted maritime commerce.

Following the completion of official engagements in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi concluded the UAE leg of his foreign visit before departing for Europe. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally saw him off, underlining the close diplomatic ties shared between the two nations.

The visit comes at a crucial geopolitical moment when both India and the UAE are working to balance economic growth, regional stability and energy security amid rising uncertainty in West Asia.
