Faridabad AC Blast: Family of Three and Pet Dog Die, Son Critical After Jumping from Window

Faridabad AC Blast has claimed the lives of three family members and their pet dog in Green Field Colony. The incident took place shortly after midnight on September 8 when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded, sparking a fire and filling the apartment with thick smoke.

What Happened on Sunday Night?

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred around 1:30 am on the first floor of a four-storey building in Faridabad. The flat was vacant, but the smoke quickly rose to the second floor, where the Kapoor family was asleep.

The victims have been identified as Sachin Kapoor, his wife Rinku Kapoor, and their daughter Sujan Kapoor. All three, along with the family’s pet dog, tragically died of suffocation before help could arrive. Their son, Aryan Kapoor, managed to jump out of a window in a desperate attempt to save himself. He was rushed to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Neighbors recalled waking up to a loud explosion, followed by smoke and flames engulfing the building. “We heard a massive blast and rushed outside. The smoke was so dense that no one could enter the house to rescue them,” said Mayank, a local resident.

Police and Investigation

Police teams reached the spot shortly after being informed and shifted the bodies to Badhshah Khan Hospital for postmortem. Officials confirmed that suffocation caused the deaths but added that further clarity would come only after forensic and technical examination.

An officer said, “The initial probe suggests the fire started due to an AC burst and possibly a short circuit. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and further investigation is underway.”

Witnesses also stated that the victims may have tried to escape to the terrace but were unable to do so because the roof door was locked.

Previous AC Blast Incidents

This is not the first time such a tragedy has been reported in India. In March 2024, a man in Delhi’s Krishna Nagar lost his life in an AC compressor blast. Similarly, in May 2024, one person died and another was injured in Uttar Pradesh during servicing of an air conditioner.

Experts have long warned that with India’s rising temperatures, the use of air conditioners has surged rapidly, increasing the risks of such incidents. The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently highlighted India’s dependence on ACs and the growing load on electrical infrastructure as a significant safety concern.

Eyewitness Video

A video recorded by a resident of the building went viral online, showing flames erupting from the balcony of the first floor. The woman can be heard crying, “Mera pura ghar jal gaya, help us. Guruji please help us…” capturing the sheer panic during the fire.

Aftermath

The horrifying Faridabad AC blast has left the Green Field Colony community in shock and mourning. Families in the neighborhood are shaken, and many have expressed concerns over the safety of electrical appliances in residential buildings.

Authorities are now urging residents to ensure regular servicing of air conditioners and electrical systems to prevent similar tragedies. Meanwhile, prayers continue for the recovery of Aryan Kapoor, the lone survivor of this devastating incident.
