PM Modi Netherlands Visit entered a crucial phase on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amsterdam for the second leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour after concluding a high-profile visit to the United Arab Emirates. The visit is expected to strengthen India’s strategic partnerships across Europe, with a strong focus on technology, trade, clean energy, semiconductors and defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome from members of the Indian community in The Hague shortly after landing in the Netherlands. Cultural performances, including traditional Garba and classical dance presentations, marked his arrival as members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers outside his hotel.

Earlier, Modi landed at Amsterdam Airport where he was received by senior Dutch officials, including Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen, Rear Admiral Ludger Brummelaar and Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands Kumar Tuhin. The visit comes at a time when India is actively working to deepen economic and technological engagement with European nations amid changing global trade dynamics.

In a message shared on X, Prime Minister Modi said the Netherlands visit carries special importance due to growing India-European Union trade discussions and cooperation in emerging sectors.

He stated that the trip would help expand partnerships in semiconductors, clean energy, water management and advanced technologies. Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and also meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima during the visit.

The Prime Minister is additionally expected to address the Indian community in the Netherlands, which has played a growing role in strengthening business, innovation and educational ties between both countries.

India Looks to Expand Semiconductor and Green Energy Cooperation

One of the key agendas of the visit is expected to be semiconductor collaboration. The Netherlands is home to several globally significant technology companies linked to chip manufacturing and advanced semiconductor equipment. India has recently accelerated efforts to build its semiconductor ecosystem through new manufacturing incentives and international partnerships.

Modi’s UAE Visit Sets Strategic Tone for Tour

Before arriving in the Netherlands, Prime Minister Modi completed a significant diplomatic visit to the UAE, where India and the Gulf nation signed multiple agreements covering defence, energy, maritime infrastructure and investments.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally welcomed Modi at Abu Dhabi airport, underlining the growing strategic importance of India-UAE relations. The Prime Minister’s aircraft was escorted by UAE fighter jets as it entered Emirati airspace, while ceremonial honours were accorded during official engagements in Abu Dhabi.

Among the major outcomes of the visit was the signing of a framework agreement for a strategic defence partnership aimed at enhancing military cooperation and regional security coordination.

India and the UAE also signed agreements linked to strategic petroleum reserves and liquefied petroleum gas supplies, reflecting concerns over global energy security amid continuing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

An important maritime agreement was signed for the development of a ship repair cluster at Vadinar in Gujarat. Additionally, investment announcements worth nearly USD 5 billion were made across Indian infrastructure and financial sectors.

During delegation-level talks, Prime Minister Modi said India and the UAE were taking their comprehensive strategic partnership to “new heights” and stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in maintaining regional peace.

He also expressed concern over rising tensions in West Asia and emphasised the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure for international trade.

Indian Community Gives Emotional Welcome in The Hague

Members of the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands described the interaction with Prime Minister Modi as memorable and emotional. Several artists who performed during the welcome ceremony shared their excitement after meeting the Prime Minister.

Gautam, one of the performers, said the group performed Garba to welcome Modi and felt proud to interact with him personally. Another artist, Reema, described the experience as “amazing” and said the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm.

The Indian community in the Netherlands has steadily expanded over the years, especially in sectors such as information technology, academia, business and healthcare. Diplomatic observers believe diaspora outreach continues to remain an important part of Modi’s international engagements.
