Andaman Underwater National Flag Guinness Record has brought global attention to India after a massive tricolour was successfully unfurled beneath the sea at Radhanagar Beach. The historic achievement, confirmed by Guinness World Records, marks a new milestone for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the field of adventure and marine events.

The record-setting flag measured approximately 60 metres by 40 metres, making it the largest national flag ever displayed underwater. The event took place at Swaraj Dweep and required precise planning, coordination, and execution by multiple agencies.

Massive Operation Involving 200+ Divers

The underwater unfurling was not a simple task. Over 200 trained divers participated in the operation, working together in a carefully synchronised effort. Teams from the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, Forest Department, and several professional diving centres collaborated to complete the mission.

Senior officials, including Lieutenant Governor D. K. Joshi, Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Director General of Police H. S. Dhaliwal, were present at the beach to witness the achievement.

At exactly 10:35 AM, Guinness adjudicator Rishi Nath officially confirmed the record and handed over the certificate to the administration.

Young Participants Add Emotional Touch

One of the most inspiring aspects of the event was the participation of young divers. Among them were 16-year-old Fateh Jahaan Singh, 15-year-old Lavanya Eira, and 14-year-old Ranvijay Singh, who became the youngest contributors to this historic feat.

Speaking to Bharat Details, Fateh described the underwater experience as unforgettable, highlighting the beauty of marine life and the pride of representing the country. Lavanya and Ranvijay also shared that holding the national flag underwater was both emotional and thrilling.

Boost for Tourism and Global Recognition

Officials believe this record will significantly boost the image of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a hub for adventure tourism and marine exploration. The successful execution of such a complex underwater event demonstrates the region’s capability to host globally recognised activities.

This achievement also adds to India’s growing list of innovative records, showcasing not just scale but creativity and teamwork.

How This Record Compares Globally

While this is the largest underwater national flag ever displayed, other flag-related records still exist in different categories. For example, the largest flag ever flown was recorded in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2025, while the biggest flag ever draped was created in Qatar in 2013.

However, India’s underwater achievement stands out due to the complexity of execution and coordination required beneath the sea.

Following this success, the Andaman and Nicobar administration is preparing for another attempt at a Guinness World Record — the “Tallest Human Stack” — at a diving site on Swaraj Dweep. Officials, including the Lieutenant Governor, are expected to attend the upcoming event.
