“This is more than just an inauguration — it’s a statement that Tesla has chosen the right city and state,” said Fadnavis during the launch at Maker Maxity Mall in BKC, Mumbai.
He expressed optimism about Tesla’s future in India, encouraging the company to consider local manufacturing and R&D. Though Elon Musk’s team hasn’t confirmed factory plans yet, the message was clear — India is ready, and Tesla is welcome.
Inside Tesla’s First Indian Experience Centre
The Mumbai showroom is being referred to as a Tesla Experience Centre — a 4,000-square-foot space in one of India’s most upscale commercial hubs. The rent? A cool ₹35 lakh per month, as per reports. Exclusive images show a pristine, Tesla-branded facade with a white Tesla Model Y stationed inside.
Six units of the Model Y were imported from Shanghai just for this launch. Social media was flooded with behind-the-scenes photos of Tesla staff moving the vehicles inside using flatbed trucks — giving fans a taste of the meticulous preparation.

Currently, India imposes import taxes ranging between 70% to 100%, a significant cost factor for buyers. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has long pushed for reductions in these tariffs. But for now, the Indian government insists Tesla should commit to local manufacturing in exchange for such benefits.
