Ruchika Singh Apologises in Viral Video After Anti-PM Modi Slogans; Investigation Continues

Ruchika Singh apology has become the latest focus of public discussion after a video surfaced online in which the teenager, accused of raising abusive slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, expressed regret for her actions and appealed for forgiveness.

The apology video emerged shortly after Prime Minister Modi released a public message urging people to guide young protesters instead of treating them only as offenders. While the video has gained significant attention across social media platforms, its authenticity has not been independently verified.

According to the video circulating online, Ruchika Singh says she was influenced by people around her during the demonstration and now deeply regrets what she said. Speaking with folded hands, she describes her actions as her “first and last mistake” and apologises to the nation.

“I am only 15 years old. I came under the influence of others present there. I said many things that should never have been said. I am ashamed of my actions and seek forgiveness,” she says in the video.

The clip quickly spread across social media, triggering mixed reactions. While some users appreciated the apology, others questioned the circumstances in which the video was recorded. Authorities have not officially confirmed the video’s authenticity.

Protest That Sparked the Controversy

The controversy stems from a protest organised at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 23. During the demonstration, several videos circulated online allegedly showing participants raising objectionable slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother.

Among those identified in connection with the incident was Ruchika Singh, whose video drew widespread criticism and prompted legal complaints.

The incident soon became a national talking point, with many debating the limits of political expression and acceptable language during public protests.

PM Modi Calls for Guidance Instead of Hatred

Before the apology video surfaced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the controversy through a video message shared on Instagram.

He acknowledged that abusive remarks directed at him and his late mother were painful but said young people should not be permanently judged for mistakes committed at a young age.

PM Modi Calls For Forgiveness After NEET Protest Abuse Row, Urges Youth To Learn And Move Forward

The Prime Minister said society should help guide children and encourage them to learn from their errors instead of responding only with anger. His remarks were widely interpreted as an appeal for restraint and constructive engagement.

His message shifted the conversation from punishment alone to questions about responsibility, civic behaviour and the role of society in shaping young minds.

Police Investigation Continues

Despite the public apology, the legal process connected to the case remains active.

Officials registered a Zero FIR at Noida’s Expressway Police Station following complaints over the alleged slogans raised during the protest. The case was later transferred to Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi, which now has jurisdiction over the investigation.

Police have invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to intentional insult, statements capable of disturbing public peace and other relevant offences.

Officials alleged that the remarks targeted the dignity of a constitutional office and had the potential to provoke public disorder. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the protest.

Police Visit Noida Residence

As part of the investigation, police also visited the housing society in Noida where Ruchika Singh reportedly lived with her mother.

Security personnel informed investigators that the apartment had remained locked since the protest. Officers also spoke with local residents while attempting to establish her whereabouts and gather additional information related to the case.

Authorities have not announced any further developments regarding questioning or additional legal action.

Organisers Raise Questions Over Criminal Proceedings

The organisation associated with the protest has criticised the criminal case registered against the teenager.

Its representatives argued that while abusive language should not be encouraged, criminal prosecution over such remarks could have wider implications for freedom of expression. They suggested that if someone believes defamatory statements have been made, legal remedies under civil or defamation laws should be considered instead.

The comments have added another dimension to an already sensitive debate involving free speech, political discourse and accountability during public demonstrations.

Debate Extends Beyond One Incident

The controversy has generated discussion far beyond the events at Jantar Mantar. Legal experts, political observers and citizens continue to debate where the line should be drawn between democratic dissent and language considered unacceptable in public life.

Many have argued that peaceful protest remains a fundamental democratic right, but that disagreements should be expressed without personal abuse or offensive remarks.

Others believe the incident highlights the growing influence of social media, where short viral clips often shape public opinion before investigations are completed.

What Happens Next?

The investigation is expected to continue as Delhi Police examine evidence related to the protest and determine whether further legal action is required.

Meanwhile, the viral apology video has become a central part of the public conversation, particularly after Prime Minister Modi’s remarks calling for compassion toward young people who acknowledge their mistakes.

Whether the apology influences the legal proceedings remains to be seen. For now, the incident continues to draw attention as discussions over accountability, political expression and responsible public conduct unfold across the country.
