Long Traffic Snarls on NH-48 and Key Intersections
The heaviest traffic was reported on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (NH-48) near Rajiv Chowk, where waterlogging forced authorities to deploy pumps to clear the road. Major bottlenecks also emerged at Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Narsinghpur, and the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
Videos shared online showed endless rows of vehicles crawling at a snail’s pace, their headlights stretching across kilometres of gridlock. According to Gurugram Traffic Police, nearly 200 distress calls were received by 7:30 pm, with commuters reporting vehicle breakdowns, waterlogged stretches, and requests for alternate routes.
Viral Videos and Social Media Outrage
Clips from the traffic chaos quickly went viral on social media platforms, sparking anger against the Haryana government and local authorities. Many users mocked the situation with memes, while others raised concerns over Gurugram’s fragile infrastructure.
One user wrote, “In Gurgaon rains, Google Maps shows ETA: Infinity!”, while another commented that the city had turned into “Kachragram.” Several sarcastic remarks also targeted Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, accusing the government of failing to implement effective drainage and traffic management systems.

Metro Rush Adds to Commuter Woes
A separate video from Sikanderpur Metro Station showed a massive crowd trying to squeeze through narrow gates after the downpour. While no stampede occurred, commuters urged Delhi Metro and Gurgaon authorities to add more security check counters to manage such rush during emergencies.

Schools Shut, Offices Told to Work From Home
As the situation worsened, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued an advisory confirming over 100 mm of rainfall between 3 pm and 7 pm in Gurugram. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
In response, all schools were asked to conduct classes online, while private offices and corporate firms were advised to implement work-from-home arrangements until conditions improved.
Politics Over Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos
The situation soon escalated into a political flashpoint. Congress MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala shared videos of stranded commuters, blaming the BJP-led government for poor planning. Surjewala remarked, “2 hours of rain = 20 KMs of Gurgaon Jam,” accusing the administration of wasting public funds on drainage projects with no visible results.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticized the “double engine sarkar,” calling Gurugram’s condition a clear failure of governance.
CM Nayab Singh Saini Reviews Situation
Later in the evening, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired a video conference with deputy commissioners across Haryana. He directed district administrations to strictly enforce school closures, provide shelter and food for those affected by floods, and remain on high alert until September 5.
The Chief Minister emphasized that all field officers must stay at their headquarters and ensure swift assistance in case of emergencies.

With more rain forecast in the coming days, Gurugram’s civic agencies face mounting pressure to address recurring issues of waterlogging and traffic management. For now, commuters remain cautious as the city braces for another round of heavy showers under the ongoing orange alert.
