Yogi Adityanath Claims Over 1 Crore Hindu Voters Missing from Uttar Pradesh Electoral Rolls

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has claimed that over one crore Hindu voters are missing from the state’s assembly electoral rolls, raising concerns about voter registration and urging BJP workers to take steps to identify eligible citizens whose names are not on the lists.

The Chief Minister made the remarks during a BJP state working committee meeting, where he highlighted what he described as a significant gap between the number of eligible voters and those registered in the assembly electoral rolls. He asked party workers to conduct booth-level checks and assist people in completing the voter registration process.

According to figures shared by Yogi Adityanath, approximately 66 lakh people whose names appear on the panchayat electoral rolls are missing from the assembly voter lists. He also claimed that around 55 lakh beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes were not registered as assembly voters.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the issue of young voters, claiming that approximately 4.5 lakh people in the 18–19 age group were missing from the electoral rolls.

Yogi Adityanath Calls for Booth-Level Voter Verification

Expressing concern over the figures, Yogi Adityanath asked BJP workers to check electoral rolls at every polling booth and identify eligible voters whose names were missing.

He directed party workers to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are responsible for maintaining and verifying electoral registration records. The exercise, he said, should focus on helping eligible citizens understand the registration process and get their names included in the electoral rolls.

Yogi also stressed that the responsibility should extend beyond booth-level workers. BJP MPs, MLAs and senior organisational office-bearers were asked to participate in the campaign and regularly review its progress.

The proposed exercise is aimed at identifying gaps in voter registration and ensuring that eligible citizens are able to exercise their voting rights.

Public Asked to Check Names in Electoral Rolls

Along with directing party workers, the Chief Minister appealed to people across Uttar Pradesh to verify whether their names were included in the assembly voter lists.

He urged eligible citizens who could not find their names to follow the prescribed procedure for registration. Party workers were also asked to assist residents who needed guidance during the process.

Voter registration is particularly important for young citizens who have recently turned 18, as they become eligible to participate in elections once they meet the required conditions and complete the registration process.

What Do the Missing Voter Figures Actually Mean?

The figures cited by Yogi Adityanath have raised questions about voter registration in Uttar Pradesh. However, the numbers should be understood in their proper context.

The panchayat electoral rolls and assembly electoral rolls are maintained for different types of elections and may follow different eligibility and registration requirements. Therefore, the absence of a person’s name from one list does not automatically establish that the person has been wrongly excluded from another.

Similarly, the figures concerning government welfare scheme beneficiaries do not independently establish how many eligible citizens have been denied voter registration.

The claims were made by the Chief Minister at a BJP organisational meeting. The figures should not be treated as independently verified evidence of the exclusion of more than one crore Hindu voters.

The focus will now be on verifying the electoral rolls, identifying genuine registration gaps and helping eligible citizens complete the necessary formalities. For voters, checking their names in the official electoral database remains an important step ahead of upcoming elections.
