PM Modi Calls for Forgiveness After NEET Protest Abuse Row, Urges Youth to Learn and Move Forward
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed for compassion and guidance instead of punishment for students who allegedly used abusive language against him during protests over alleged NEET examination irregularities. Addressing the controversy in a late-night video message shared on social media, the Prime Minister said the country’s youth should be encouraged to learn from mistakes rather than be pushed further into conflict.
His remarks came amid an ongoing debate surrounding student demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and the broader discussion on examination reforms and paper leak cases across the country.
According to officials, the controversy began after a protest over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, where videos circulating online showed abusive remarks being made against the Prime Minister. An FIR was later registered against a woman from Noida over the alleged comments, and the incident sparked widespread political and public discussion.
Without directly focusing on the legal proceedings, the Prime Minister used his video message to underline the importance of responding with restraint.
He said that not only he, but even his late mother, had been subjected to abusive language during the protest. However, he maintained that abusive words cannot solve disagreements and that society should focus on helping young people find the right direction.
Calling the protesters “misguided children,” Modi said taking students to court or relying only on punishment would not address the larger issue. Instead, he urged people to treat young citizens with understanding, describing it as society’s collective responsibility to guide them toward constructive paths.
To explain his point, the Prime Minister used a simple analogy, saying that just as a person does not reject their own teeth if they accidentally bite the tongue, the country’s youth also remain an inseparable part of society even when they make mistakes.
He encouraged students to acknowledge errors, learn from them, and participate positively in India’s progress. According to him, the nation is moving forward, and young people should become partners in that journey instead of remaining trapped in anger or division.
Government Highlights Examination Reforms
Alongside his message on forgiveness, the Prime Minister also spoke about efforts to strengthen India’s examination system. He said governments at both the Centre and in the states have faced the challenge of paper leaks for many years, affecting the future of countless students.
He noted that recent reforms aim to improve transparency and restore confidence in competitive examinations. These measures include stronger use of technology, faster investigative mechanisms and coordination with state governments to improve examination security.
The Prime Minister also referred to the recently enacted anti-paper leak legislation, saying strict legal provisions are necessary to dismantle organised groups involved in examination fraud.
According to the government, the objective of the new law is to act firmly against individuals and networks responsible for leaking examination papers and compromising the careers of students.
