Singer Maithili Thakur reveals why she joined BJP ahead of Bihar election

Singer Maithili Thakur reveals why she joined BJP ahead of Bihar election, saying her decision was driven by inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The 25-year-old folk and devotional singer formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi, just days before the upcoming Bihar Assembly Election 2025.

Maithili Thakur joins BJP inspired by Modi and Nitish Kumar

Speaking to the media after joining the party, Maithili Thakur said she was deeply impressed by the leadership style and developmental vision of PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar. “I am very impressed with Prime Minister Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Drawing inspiration from them, I am here to support their vision and contribute to society,” she said.

Thakur emphasized that her entry into politics was not about personal ambition but about public service. “Joining a political party doesn’t necessarily make you a politician. I have always believed in serving people, and through BJP, I can do that on a larger scale,” she added.

A proud daughter of Mithila

Known for her soulful renditions of Maithili folk and devotional songs, Thakur proudly described herself as the “daughter of Mithila.” She said her cultural roots and emotional identity remain deeply tied to her homeland in north Bihar. “I am the daughter of Mithila; my soul resides in Mithila,” Thakur told reporters.

When asked about her future role in the BJP, Thakur said the decision lies entirely with the party leadership. “The party will decide what responsibilities I should take. I am here to support and serve, not to demand positions,” she stated.

Meeting with BJP leaders before joining

Maithili Thakur’s induction came shortly after her meeting with BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai. Following their interaction, Tawde congratulated Thakur on social media and welcomed her to the party fold.

Thakur expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “It’s a big moment for me to receive blessings and encouragement from senior leaders like Tawde ji and Nityanand Rai ji.”

She also revealed that she would be open to contesting the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 if the party deemed her suitable. “If BJP wants me to contest, I will accept that challenge. It would be a new journey, but I am ready for it,” she said.

Possible candidature and local connect

Sources within the BJP told Bharat Details that Maithili Thakur might be considered for either the Benipatti or Alinagar Assembly seat. Although no official confirmation has been made, her strong local roots in Madhubani district make her a natural choice.

Thakur’s ancestral village is located in Benipatti block of Madhubani, while her maternal roots trace back to Darbhanga. “My grandmother’s village is in Madhubani and my maternal grandmother’s in Darbhanga. People from both places love me equally,” she said.

Admiration for Prime Minister Modi

Describing Prime Minister Modi as her favourite leader, Thakur shared that his speeches and Mann Ki Baat broadcasts have been a major source of motivation for her. “I have been listening to his words for years — they always inspire me to do more for people,” she said.

From stage to service: Maithili’s journey

Before her political entry, Thakur became a household name through her appearance on the TV reality show The Rising Star (2017), where she finished as the runner-up. Her mastery over classical and folk genres earned her massive popularity across social media — with millions of followers on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

“I have already been serving people through my folk songs that connect hearts and cultures. If politics gives me another way to serve my region, I will embrace it — not through power, but through service,” she said.

With her official entry into the BJP, Maithili Thakur’s presence adds a strong cultural and youth connect to the party’s Bihar campaign ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. While her candidature is yet to be confirmed, her popularity and deep roots in Mithila could make her one of the most talked-about faces in Bihar politics in the months to come.
