Army Kills 2 Terrorists in J&K’s Kupwara After Suspicious Movement, Search Operations Continue

Army kills 2 terrorists in J&K’s Kupwara during an encounter on Monday evening after troops noticed suspicious movement near the Line of Control (LoC). The operation took place in the Machhal Sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, following specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt.

According to the Indian Army, the alert soldiers from a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a swift operation based on credible information shared by multiple agencies. “Based on specific intelligence input by JKP and corroborated by other sources regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and J&K Police in Machhal Sector, Kupwara, on 13 October 2025,” read an official statement from the Indian Army.

Security personnel deployed in the area noticed suspicious movement near the LoC and challenged the infiltrators, who retaliated with indiscriminate firing. The Army responded effectively, killing two terrorists in the ensuing gunfight. “Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening fire. Troops responded with precision, neutralising two terrorists. A large quantity of weapons and other war-like stores have been recovered from the site,” Army officials added.

The identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed, but initial reports suggest they were attempting to infiltrate from across the border, taking advantage of poor visibility and difficult terrain in the region.

Heightened Security Measures Ahead of Winter

With the onset of winter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed all security forces to maintain the highest level of vigilance along the Line of Control and the International Border. Shah emphasised that terrorist groups often exploit snowfall and reduced visibility to attempt infiltration into Indian territory.

The directive came during a high-level security review meeting chaired by the Home Minister in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of J&K, Directors General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indian Army.

During the meeting, Shah reviewed the current security situation, counter-infiltration grid, and preparedness of forces in the valley. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that peace and normalcy are maintained across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in sensitive border areas.

Continued Operations and Vigilance in Kupwara

Following the encounter, additional search operations have been launched in and around the Machhal Sector to ensure that no other infiltrators are hiding in the dense forested terrain. The Army and J&K Police are combing the area to trace any possible escape routes or abandoned hideouts.

Officials confirmed that recovered weapons and communication equipment are being examined to determine the origin and potential affiliations of the terrorists. Security forces believe that the infiltration attempt was part of a broader strategy by terror groups to push militants into the valley before heavy snowfall blocks traditional routes.

As operations continue, the Army has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security along the LoC and preventing any attempt to disrupt stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two terrorists were neutralised in Kupwara’s Machhal Sector after security forces spotted suspicious movement near the LoC. The operation, led jointly by the Army and J&K Police, recovered a cache of weapons.
