Mumbai Goregaon High-Rise Fire: Blaze Erupts at Vaishnav Heights, Firefighting Operations Continue

Mumbai Goregaon high-rise fire was reported on Sunday afternoon after a blaze broke out inside Vaishnav Heights, a 22-storey residential tower located on Rani Sati Marg, opposite Balaji Hospital in Goregaon (East).

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident occurred around 3:33 pm on August 24 when flames were first spotted inside a flat on the 11th floor. Within minutes, smoke began spreading to the upper floors of the tower.

Fire escalated to Level II alert

By 3:49 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) classified the incident as a Level II fire, which requires immediate deployment of additional firefighting resources. The blaze eventually spread to approximately 600 sq. ft. of closed rooms on the 12th floor, while thick smoke logged several upper stories of the building.

Massive emergency response

The fire brigade launched a swift operation, mobilising:

  • 7 fire engines
  • 1 turntable ladder
  • 1 high-pressure van
  • 2 advanced water tenders
  • 4 jumbo tankers
  • 1 breathing apparatus van
  • 1 quick response vehicle

Senior officials, including the Deputy Fire Officer (DFO) and Assistant Divisional Fire Officers (ADFOs), supervised the operations. Alongside MFB, teams from BMC ward staff, Mumbai Police, Public Works Department (PWD), Adani Electricity, and 108 ambulance services were stationed at the site to provide assistance.

Cause under investigation

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact reason behind the fire. Officials said they are investigating whether an electrical short circuit or equipment fault triggered the incident.

No casualties reported

As of the latest update at 4:03 pm, officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported. Evacuation of residents was carried out smoothly, and smoke clearance efforts are still underway on the affected floors.

An MFB spokesperson confirmed, “The fire was confined to closed rooms on the 12th floor, covering an area of around 600 square feet. While smoke spread to the upper floors, no occupants sustained injuries.”

Current status

By evening, fire officials managed to bring the flames under control, although cooling and smoke-ventilation procedures are still in progress. Residents of the high-rise have been temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.
