What Sparked the Controversy
The controversy began when Aly attended Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at his close friend Krushna Abhishek and Kashmera Shah’s residence. The event was also attended by Jasmin Bhasin and other celebrities. In one video that spread widely on social media, Aly remained silent while others around him chanted “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” Jasmin was even seen nudging him to join in, but he chose not to.
This clip quickly attracted attention online, with many trolls accusing him of disrespecting the festival. Soon after, the Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor found himself at the receiving end of hate messages, FIR demands, and even death threats.
Aly Goni Speaks Out
In an interview with Bharat Details, Aly opened up about the backlash. He said his inboxes have been overflowing with threats:
“Mujhe death threats aa rahe hain bhar-bhar ke. Mere emails bhare hue hain, mere comments bhare hue hain. Log tweet kar rahe hain ki mere liye FIR karo, for what? Main toh bohot normal si baat bolta hoon ki main toh Musalman hoon, isliye mere par daala gaya. Par kai Hindu hain jo Ganpati nahi laate, kya woh Hindu nahi hain?”
The actor clarified that this was his first Ganpati celebration, and he was simply lost in his thoughts. He stressed that in his religion, he is not permitted to perform prayers outside of namaz, and his silence was not meant to offend anyone.
Warning to Trolls
Aly also sent a stern message to those targeting Jasmin Bhasin and his family. He said he will not tolerate any abuse directed toward them:
“Ye jo dhamki dene wale hain ya jo Jasmin ko gali dene wale hain, inme se ek mein bhi himmat hai toh mere saamne aakar bole. I swear on God, main gardan kaat kar haath mein de dunga. Meri maa, behen ya Jasmine ke baare mein koi bolega toh I will not tolerate.”
The actor further revealed that overnight, some social media pages portrayed him as “anti-national” and even called him a “terrorist.” He condemned this selective outrage and questioned why his silence was blown out of proportion.
Divided Public Opinion
The viral video has sparked mixed reactions. While a section of the internet criticised Aly for attending a Ganpati puja but not chanting, others defended him, stating that his presence at the event was itself a respectful gesture. Many pointed out that religious differences should not lead to character assassination or communal trolling.

On the Work Front
Despite the controversy, Aly continues to remain active professionally. He was recently seen on the reality cooking show Laughter Chefs Season 2, where he partnered with Reem Shaikh. The show concluded in July this year, with Elvish Yadav and Karan Kundrra emerging as winners while Aly and Reem finished as runner-ups.
The Aly Goni Ganpati video has once again highlighted how quickly social media can turn a simple act into a nationwide debate. While the actor has clarified his stance, the backlash shows no sign of slowing down. For now, Aly stands firm in his message—he will not tolerate threats against Jasmin Bhasin or his family, and he hopes people can respect personal faith without turning it into communal hate.
