In two separate incidents reported on Friday and Sunday, a businessman and a young woman were killed, prompting a high-level investigation by the Mumbai Police.

According to the police, the first incident took place on Friday afternoon inside a construction site shed at Ramvijay Co-op Society, near Charkop Depot. The accused, identified as 41-year-old labourer Dasa Rana, allegedly strangled his wife Himandri during a heated argument over money. Rana reportedly wanted to travel to his native place in Odisha, but his wife refused to give him money. Enraged, he assaulted her before strangling her with a bedsheet.

Shockingly, the couple’s minor son was present and witnessed the entire crime. Police said his statement played a crucial role in confirming the sequence of events. Other workers at the construction site later discovered the victim unconscious after Rana reluctantly opened the door to their temporary shed. Himandri was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Rana was subsequently arrested after police registered a murder case based on eyewitness testimony and a co-worker’s complaint.

Just two days later, on Sunday, another gruesome crime unfolded in the same locality. Around noon, 70-year-old Mohammad Saiyyad, a metal businessman, was alone in his factory located in the industrial area of Charkop. Two unidentified men entered the premises and attacked him with a sharp object, fatally injuring him.

CCTV footage retrieved from the factory shows the assailants discarding the weapon into a water tank before leaving the scene. Saiyyad was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police have registered a murder case and are currently scanning CCTV footage and conducting inquiries to identify the accused.

Senior police officials confirmed that both cases are being investigated separately. “In the businessman’s case, we are analyzing CCTV evidence and tracing the suspects. In the labourer’s case, the accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway,” an officer from Charkop Police Station told Bharat Details.

These back-to-back killings in Charkop within three days have raised alarm in the Kandivali area. While the first case highlights domestic violence triggered by financial disputes, the second incident points towards possible premeditated murder in a business setting.

Residents have urged authorities to step up patrolling in the locality to prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, the police are working on gathering evidence to ensure justice for both victims.

Recap: Within a span of just three days, Charkop in Kandivali has reported two murders — one involving a domestic dispute between a couple and another targeting a senior businessman. While the accused in the first case has been arrested, the second case remains under investigation as police continue efforts to trace the unidentified attackers.

Dahisar Toll Naka to be shifted near Versova bridge, relief for Mira-Bhayandar commuters https://www.bharatdetails.com/dahisar-toll-naka-to-be-shifted-near-versova-bridge-relief-for-mira-bhayandar-commuters https://www.bharatdetails.com/dahisar-toll-naka-to-be-shifted-near-versova-bridge-relief-for-mira-bhayandar-commuters#respond Wed, 10 Sep 2025 07:14:49 +0000 https://www.bharatdetails.com/?p=5040 Dahisar Toll Naka is all set to be relocated two kilometres north of its current position, bringing long-awaited relief to residents and commuters from Mira-Bhayandar. The decision was approved by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also holds the portfolio of the Urban Development Department and oversees the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Why the relocation matters

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway is one of the busiest routes in the state, connecting the country’s financial capital with Gujarat. Over the years, rising traffic volumes have turned the Dahisar Toll Naka into a chronic bottleneck, causing delays of up to an hour. The congestion has been particularly severe for Mira-Bhayandar residents, who often spend extra travel time even for short commutes into Mumbai.

Deputy CM Shinde’s directive will shift the toll plaza near the Versova bridge, outside Mira-Bhayandar’s municipal limits. According to officials, the relocation will significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce fuel wastage, and cut pollution levels caused by idling vehicles. The move is expected to be implemented before Diwali.

Political push and public demand

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, whose assembly constituency includes parts of Mira-Bhayandar, has been at the forefront of this demand. He highlighted how residents face delays ranging between 30 minutes to an hour, urging the government to act swiftly. Sarnaik had earlier written to Shinde in August requesting the toll naka’s relocation to reduce mounting congestion.

Residents, too, have long pressed for the move. Mira-Bhayandar resident Vivek Surve told Bharat Details, “This will be a huge relief and save significant time. Sometimes I leave two hours early just to make sure I reach appointments in Mumbai on time.”

Approvals and next steps

Since the new toll plaza will be situated on a stretch under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the MSRDC has been instructed to forward a detailed proposal for clearance. The final approval must come from the Union Ministry of Road Transport in Delhi. Officials estimate that once sanctioned, the relocation can be completed within one to one-and-a-half months.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Deputy CM Shinde and attended by key stakeholders, including Dahisar MLA Prakash Surve, MSRDC Joint Managing Director Manoj Jindal, NHAI Director Suhas Chitnis, Vasai-Virar Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik, and IRB contractor Virendra Mhaiskar.

A step toward smoother travel

Currently, tolls for small vehicles at Mumbai’s five entry points, including Dahisar, have already been waived. However, the naka still witnesses massive pile-ups as cars and heavy vehicles queue together, even though only trucks and trailers are required to pay. Officials believe the new arrangement will streamline toll collection for heavy vehicles while providing Mira-Bhayandar residents toll-free and smoother access to Mumbai.

Transport Minister Sarnaik added that the relocation continues Shiv Sena’s earlier policy under Eknath Shinde, who had cancelled multiple toll plazas across the state to support common citizens.

The shifting of the Dahisar Toll Naka near the Versova bridge is being hailed as a timely intervention for Mira-Bhayandar’s 15 lakh residents and thousands of daily commuters. If all approvals are secured quickly, motorists can expect a congestion-free drive into Mumbai just ahead of Diwali, marking a significant milestone in easing urban travel pressure.

₹6,363 Crore Thane–Navi Mumbai Airport Elevated Road Approved, ₹365 Toll Rate Sparks Debate https://www.bharatdetails.com/%e2%82%b96363-crore-thane-navi-mumbai-airport-elevated-road-approved-%e2%82%b9365-toll-rate-sparks-debate https://www.bharatdetails.com/%e2%82%b96363-crore-thane-navi-mumbai-airport-elevated-road-approved-%e2%82%b9365-toll-rate-sparks-debate#respond Tue, 09 Sep 2025 07:37:19 +0000 https://www.bharatdetails.com/?p=5021 Thane–Navi Mumbai Airport Elevated Road has been given the green light by the Maharashtra Cabinet under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The 25-km elevated corridor, estimated at ₹6,363 crore, will directly connect Thane to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The project will be executed by CIDCO under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Planned as a six-lane, access-controlled corridor, the road will include six major interchanges. Authorities say vehicles will be allowed to travel at speeds up to 100 km/hr. Once operational, the corridor will cut travel time between Thane and NMIA from nearly 90 minutes to just 30 minutes. This is expected to ease congestion on the Eastern Express Highway and Thane–Belapur Road while improving connectivity to the new international airport.

The Cabinet has also approved land acquisition for commercial use along the route. In addition, CIDCO will be allowed to use government land beneath the elevated stretch at nominal charges. Officials have described the initiative as one of the state’s most significant urban infrastructure projects, benefiting commuters from Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath–Badlapur, and Bhayandar, who currently face long travel times to Mumbai’s congested Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

However, the steep toll rate for the corridor has already triggered debate. A single trip is expected to cost ₹365, higher than the ₹250 toll on Mumbai’s Atal Setu sea bridge. Officials have also clarified that toll charges will be revised annually, raising concerns among regular commuters.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is nearing completion, is expected to handle two million passengers annually in its initial phase. By 2038, once the airport is fully operational, the figure is projected to rise to around nine million passengers per year.

Bharat Details will continue to track updates on both the elevated road and the NMIA project as they move closer to launch.

Lalbaugcha Raja Visarjan Completed After 35 Hours Procession Delayed Due to High Tide at Girgaon Chowpatty https://www.bharatdetails.com/lalbaugcha-raja-visarjan-completed-after-35-hours-procession-delayed-due-to-high-tide-at-girgaon-chowpatty https://www.bharatdetails.com/lalbaugcha-raja-visarjan-completed-after-35-hours-procession-delayed-due-to-high-tide-at-girgaon-chowpatty#respond Sun, 07 Sep 2025 17:18:15 +0000 https://www.bharatdetails.com/?p=4999 Lalbaugcha Raja Visarjan completed after 35 hours procession delayed due to high tide at Girgaon Chowpatty, making it one of the longest and most challenging immersions in Mumbai’s recent history. The city’s most iconic Ganesh idol finally entered the Arabian Sea late Sunday night after hours of struggle against nature’s tide.

The 35-Hour Journey: Timeline of Events

  • Saturday Afternoon (Start from Lalbaug):
The grand procession of Lalbaugcha Raja began from the pandal in Lalbaug. Thousands of devotees accompanied the idol with chants, music, and traditional aartis, expecting the immersion to conclude the following morning.
  • Early Sunday Morning (Arrival at Chowpatty, 5–7 am):
As per tradition, the idol reached Girgaon Chowpatty between 5 am and 7 am. The immersion was expected to be smooth, but sea conditions soon turned unfavorable.
  • Late Sunday Morning (High Tide Disruption, 11.40 am):
A high tide measuring 4.42 metres struck, creating strong currents that made it impossible to position the idol on the immersion raft. Multiple attempts by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal volunteers were unsuccessful.
  • Sunday Afternoon (Continuous Attempts):
Civic staff, mandal volunteers, and local fishermen worked tirelessly, trying various methods to stabilize the idol. Several times, the crowd cheered, thinking the immersion would succeed, but safety concerns forced organisers to pause efforts repeatedly.
  • Sunday Evening (Breakthrough at 4.45 pm):
After hours of struggle, the idol was successfully placed onto a specially constructed motorised raft with the combined effort of hundreds of volunteers and fishermen. Organisers announced that the immersion would take place later in the night, when the tide would be calmer.
  • Sunday Night (Final Immersion, Around 11 pm):
The majestic idol of Lalbaugcha Raja was finally immersed in the Arabian Sea, marking the conclusion of a 35-hour-long journey.

Devotion Shines Amid Delay

Despite the extended wait, thousands of devotees stood firmly at Girgaon Chowpatty. They sang devotional songs, offered flowers, and continued chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya” throughout the day. Many senior devotees remarked that they had never witnessed such a prolonged visarjan in recent decades.

A Historic Visarjan for Mumbai

The 2025 Lalbaugcha Raja procession will be remembered not only for its 35-hour duration but also for the patience and unity shown by devotees and volunteers. While the high tide posed serious challenges, the successful completion of the visarjan highlighted the undying devotion of Mumbaikars, reaffirming why Lalbaugcha Raja remains the heart of Ganeshotsav in the city.

The actor’s initiative, held on Sunday morning, won praise from citizens and authorities alike.

A Collective Effort for Cleanliness

The clean-up was organised at Juhu Beach on September 7, the morning after Ganesh idols were immersed in the sea. The beach, like every year, was left with litter and remnants of immersion materials. Leading by example, Akshay Kumar rolled up his sleeves and joined volunteers in collecting waste.

He was accompanied by Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, who also participated in the drive. Videos circulating online show Akshay Kumar actively picking up garbage and filling bags with debris, working shoulder-to-shoulder with volunteers.

Speaking at the event, the superstar highlighted that cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility. “Wisdom teaches us to maintain cleanliness. Our Prime Minister has reminded us that it’s not just the government’s or BMC’s duty, but a collective responsibility of citizens too,” Akshay said, underlining the importance of active public participation.

Amruta Fadnavis echoed the sentiment, appreciating the dedication of volunteers and praising the initiative as part of the larger Swachhata Abhiyan movement in Mumbai.

Extending Support Beyond Mumbai

This is not the first time Akshay Kumar has stepped forward for social causes. Recently, he pledged ₹5 crore towards flood relief efforts in Punjab, describing the contribution not as charity but as sewa for people in need.

Busy Schedule on the Film Front

Alongside his social initiatives, Akshay Kumar is also busy with his professional commitments. He recently reunited with Saif Ali Khan for their upcoming film “Haiwaan”, directed by Priyadarshan. This collaboration comes nearly 18 years after their last project together, Tashan.

Sharing a behind-the-scenes moment on Instagram, Akshay wrote, “Hum sab hi hain thode se shaitaan… Koi upar se Saint, koi andar se Haiwaan :)) Starting the shoot for #Haiwaan today with my absolute favourite captain of the ship, @priyadarshan.official Sir. Great to be working with Saif after nearly 17 years. Let’s get the haiwaniyat rolling!!”

Saif Ali Khan, who had suffered knife injuries earlier this year during a burglary incident at his Bandra residence, has recovered and returned to film sets. His reunion with Akshay marks one of the most anticipated projects of 2025.

Akshay Kumar’s active participation in the Juhu Beach clean-up after Ganpati Visarjan has once again showcased his commitment to social causes. By joining hands with citizens, officials, and leaders, he reinforced the message that keeping our cities clean is a shared duty — not just during festivals but every day.

Cultural Significance and the Bandra Fair

The Mount Mary Feast is more than just a religious celebration; it is a cultural landmark for Mumbai. The lanes around the Basilica transform into a bustling fairground, popularly known as the Bandra Fair, where stalls sell religious artefacts, rosaries, candles, and handicrafts.

Food is a major highlight, with East Indian and Koli delicacies such as choris pav, Calicut halwa, kala channa, kadio bodios, and petha being crowd favourites. Families from across the city flock to the fair to enjoy the blend of devotion, tradition, and community spirit.

Why It Matters

For centuries, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount has been a symbol of faith for Catholics in Mumbai. The Mount Mary Feast commemorates the birth of the Virgin Mary, who is revered as the Mother of Jesus Christ. The event is not only a spiritual occasion but also a unifying festival where faith, culture, and festivity come together.

As Mumbai prepares for Mount Mary Feast 2025, devotees and visitors alike can look forward to days filled with prayer, tradition, and celebration. With novena prayers, feast day services, octave masses, and the colourful Bandra Fair, the event continues to uphold its legacy as one of the city’s grandest annual gatherings.

Arun Gawli Released from Jail After 17 Years in Shiv Sena Leader Murder Case https://www.bharatdetails.com/arun-gawli-released-from-jail-after-17-years-in-shiv-sena-leader-murder-case https://www.bharatdetails.com/arun-gawli-released-from-jail-after-17-years-in-shiv-sena-leader-murder-case#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2025 14:17:34 +0000 https://www.bharatdetails.com/?p=4977 Arun Gawli released from jail on Wednesday after serving more than 17 years in connection with the murder of Mumbai Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar. The 76-year-old gangster-turned-politician walked out of Nagpur Central Jail around 12:30 pm, following a Supreme Court order granting him bail.

Supreme Court’s Decision

A bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh granted bail to the former MLA, noting his advanced age and prolonged incarceration. The judges highlighted that Gawli had already been behind bars for 17 years and three months, while his appeal had remained pending since his conviction.

“Admittedly, the appellant has been under incarceration for 17 years and three months. We also take note of the fact that he is 76 years old,” the bench observed.

The apex court’s order allows his release, subject to conditions laid down by the trial court. The matter is scheduled for final hearing in February next year.

Welcomed Outside Jail

As Gawli stepped out of Nagpur Central Jail, he was greeted by family members, his legal team, and a group of supporters. His release marks a significant development in a case that has drawn public and political attention for nearly two decades.

The Murder Case

The case dates back to 2007, when Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar was shot dead in Mumbai. Police investigations linked the crime to Gawli’s gang. He was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

In 2006, Gawli and 11 others were arrested. A 138-page chargesheet was filed, and in August 2012, a Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. Along with the life sentence, the court imposed a fine of ₹17 lakh.

Political Career and Influence

Arun Gawli, widely known by his nickname “Daddy”, rose from the crowded lanes of Dagdi Chawl in Byculla. Once feared in Mumbai’s underworld, he later entered politics by forming the Akhil Bharatiya Sena.

Gawli won the Chinchpokli Assembly seat in 2004 and served as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly until 2009. Despite his political stint, his name remained closely associated with organised crime and multiple criminal cases.

Recent Developments

Earlier this year, in May, Gawli was acquitted by a Mumbai court in a 2008 extortion case, where the prosecution failed to establish charges against him. His release now adds another chapter to his complex journey from underworld don to politician.

What Lies Ahead

With his bail granted, Gawli will now live under the restrictions imposed by the trial court until the Supreme Court delivers a final judgment in 2025. His release is likely to spark renewed debate about the intersection of politics and crime in Maharashtra.

Shilpa Shetty announces closure of Bastian

A Celebrity Hotspot Turns Quiet

Bastian Bandra, since its inception in 2016 and relocation in 2023, had become a hub for Mumbai’s celebrities and socialites. Its lavish interiors, curated menu, and high-profile clientele made it a must-visit destination for both local diners and paparazzi eager to spot stars. Over the years, it hosted countless celebrations, events, and private parties, cementing its place in the city’s social calendar.

The ₹60 Crore Fraud Controversy

The restaurant’s closure coincides with a high-profile legal dispute involving Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra. Both are accused in a ₹60 crore fraud case filed by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Ltd.

Kothari alleges that funds intended for business expansion through Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd—a venture once promoted by the couple—were misused for personal expenses instead. According to him, the transactions occurred between 2015 and 2023, and agreements were allegedly forged to cover the diversion of funds. Investigators from the Economic Offences Wing (EoW) have reportedly taken the matter seriously, citing potential investor mismanagement.

Denials and Legal Stand

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, strongly denied the allegations. Speaking to Bharat Details, Patil said, “All allegations are false. We have not received a copy of the FIR so far. Once we receive it, we will examine the claims and adopt the necessary legal remedies. These transactions are 7-8 years old. If there were wrongdoing, complaints would not have been delayed for so long. We have documentary evidence and will present the truth to the investigating agencies.”

Patil further emphasized that the case largely involves civil matters already addressed in proceedings before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai. “My clients deny all the allegations, which are purely civil in nature and have already been adjudicated,” he added.

The Wider Impact on Mumbai’s Celebrity Dining Scene

Bastian Bandra’s closure highlights the risks associated with celebrity-backed ventures in India. While actors and public figures can generate strong brand appeal, financial management and accountability remain crucial. Over the past decade, several celebrity-led projects have faced scrutiny for operational challenges, investor disputes, or mismanagement.

For Shilpa Shetty, the farewell to Bastian Bandra is not just about closing a restaurant—it is a symbolic moment that merges nostalgia with ongoing legal scrutiny. The couple faces the dual challenge of safeguarding their public image while navigating complex financial allegations. For Mumbai diners and celebrities, the shutdown ends an era of glamorous nights, curated cuisine, and star-studded memories.

Closing Note
As Bastian Bandra serves its final meals, the spotlight shifts to legal proceedings surrounding Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra. Meanwhile, Bastian at the Top will carry forward the culinary and nightlife legacy, promising a fresh chapter for Mumbai’s dining scene.
